It is hard to determine what is the chosen way to see the french riviera. It could be from its mountains, waterfalls, beaches, by car by train or by foot trip.
But one thing is for sure: if you are in search of a detailed showcase of nature – you are going to love the coastal paths of the region.

Today we went on a very special and not populated one.
This 3.2 KM long coastal path connects between the eastern-end of Nice (Cap de Nice) with Villefranche-sur-mer and is breathtakingly beautiful.

How to get to the starting point

Take bus No. 38 from central city towards “Gustavin / Parc Vigier” and get down at “Château de l’Anglais” station. Climb a bit further to the main street called Boulevard Maurice Maeterlinck until you meet the first curve of the road. There, you will find the signs to go down and start the “Sentier du Littoral” (coastal path).

Starting from Cap de Nice, you will find yourselves going through a big drop that will show you some green beauty.
Arriving to the bottom, sea level, you will find an old military cannon housing that used to operate during WWII.

Cap de Nice

From that moment on the landscape is fascinating, going up and down in front of Cap-Ferrat by some mini-cliffs and “flying” stairs.
Stops are numerous and bringing some food is highly recommended.

Arriving to the more calm part of the path you will discover the commercial port of Villefranche, full of colorful small and medium size boats that are mixing so well with the rest of the landscape.
Sticking on to the coast, you will walk around the town’s impressive citadel that you can visit.

Villefranche-sur-mer

Ending up in the center of Villefranche you can reward yourself with cocktails and bath in the beach.

The big advantage of this trip is that the way back is easy thanks to the train station that is located nearby (Villefranche-sur-mer).
Make sure that you have a credit card or coins as the ticket machines there will not accept bills.
